The Theme for the 2023 Prize is Faces in the Street

The 2023 Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival offers Photography Prizes in the following Sections: PHOTOGRAPHY, PHOTOGRAPHY MONOCHROME, , PHOTOGRAPHY DIGITALLY ENHANCED, PHOTOGRAPHY AGRICULTURAL.

Conditions of Entry

  • Entry is open to professional photographers, emerging photographers, enthusiasts and student photographers that live in Australia.
  • All entries are to be a still work that has been substantially produced by photographic means. It must be A4 or 12 x 8” in size and must be mounted on white colour board. Combined thickness of mount and print must not exceed 4mm or 6mm if using a window mount.
  • Entries may not be more than three (3) years old.
  • Entrants must complete an entry form and may enter up to four (4) entries per section, and eight (8) entries in total. No two entries may be the same image or subject.
  • Entry fees are $20 per entry. Payment must be made at the time of entry. Payments not cleared by 19 May, will not be judged or exhibited.
  • All entries must have an identification label attached to the top left corner on the back of the art mount identifying the photographers name, entry title, section and category. There must not be any identifying markings on the front of the entry.
  • Entrants must complete an online entry form and may enter up to four (4) entries per section, and eight (8) entries in total. No two entries may be the same image or subject.
  • All elements of the work must be the work of the photographer. All aspects of the image must have been produced by the entrant or under the entrant’s direct instruction (including all post-processing and orienting work).
  • The entrant must be the sole copyright holder and intellectual property owner of their entries in accordance with Australian law.
  • Entries submitted to previous Henry Lawson Festival Photographic Competitions are ineligible for entry.
  • All entries must be received by 5:00pm, Friday 19 May 2022. If entries are posted, they must be postmarked Friday 19 May 2022 to be eligible for entry into the competition.
  • The Promoter reserves the right to reject any entries which it considers to be pornographic, inappropriate or that they believe infringe Australian law.
  • Failure to abide by the eligibility conditions may render the entry ineligible and will not be judged or exhibited.
  • A decision by the Promoter regarding an entry’s eligibility, and/or suitability pursuant to clause 12 is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entries will be displayed in a public exhibition from 9 June 2023 to the 12 June 2023, however not all entries may be exhibited due to space restrictions. The Promoter reserves the right to choose and prioritise entries for exhibition.
  • Copyright of entries remains with the entrant.
  • All care will be taken with entries but the Promoter accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to entries.
  • The entrant permits the Promoter and sponsors to reproduce all or part of the entry free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the competition and exhibition. This may include low resolution reproduction on the festival social media pages and related websites.

Mounting Entries

All entries must be mounted as per the conditions of entry.  This ensures a professional display and makes judging easier. Mounting board can be obtained from photo processing stores, art supply stores or online.  All reputable framers will be able to mount your image(s) as per the specifications following:

  • The mounting board must be white in colour.
  • The outer size of the mount for the standard A4 or 12 x 8” print must not exceed 11 x 14”, and prints must be affixed permanently using materials that provide long lasting adhesion.
  • There are two options for mounting:
    • Flush mounting on a single board; or
  • Mounted on a backing board and matted behind a window mount
  • Each mounted image must have a label affixed to the back (top left corner) that has the photographer’s name, title of the print and relevant section and category indicated on the entry form.

The entry fee is $20 for each entry up to a maximum of four per category, and eight in total.

Collecting Entries After Exhibition

Entries can be collected in person from 1.00pm 12th June 2023, or sent by return post provided a pre-paid, self addressed envelope is lodged with the entry form.  All care will be exercised with prints, but no responsibility will be assumed for loss or damage to entries.

Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days, from 10am – 4pm on weekdays and 10am – 3pm on Saturday and 10am – 2pm on Sunday.

Returning Entries

If you want your entries posted back after the exhibition, ensure you enclose a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope. Collection of entries can be made at the delivery address on or after 1.00pm 12 June 2022.
